What to Expect from a Hearing Test

What to Expect from a Hearing Test

A hearing test is the best tool to assess the ability and identify any loss of hearing. Different methods are used to test for issues and to help find effective treatment for any hearing loss symptoms you might display. Our hearing tests are painless, thorough and non-invasive. Here's what you can expect from one of our hearing evaluations.

Consultation

Consultation

When you show up, you will have a consultation with one of our hearing instrument specialists. The consultation is a discussion on hearing loss and what we can do to help. We'll ask about your daily activities, occupation, interests, whether you've recently been subjected to any loud sounds, and any accidents or medical conditions that may result in hearing loss. We will also inquire about the different environments in which you notice any difficulty hearing or understanding.

Physical Examination

After this conversation, we will inspect your ears with an otoscope, a device that helps us to observe your ear canal. This step allows us to assess if your eardrum is damaged or if something is blocking your ear canal.

Hearing Tests

There are several different tests that we perform, and we might not need to perform them all. Let’s have a look at some of the most common tests and what you might expect.

Reviewing Your Results

Your hearing test results will be registered on an audiogram, a visual depiction of your hearing abilities. Your speech recognition will be reported as a percentage.

Your audiogram will provide us with important information about your existing hearing abilities. If a hearing loss is found, the degree, form, and specification of the hearing loss will also be communicated in the audiogram. If a hearing loss is present, discussing treatment options would be the next step.

Hearing tests are not just for those who think they need to be treated immediately. It's also a great idea to get an annual hearing test to monitor your hearing health and detect any hearing problems early. To book a hearing test with us, contact us today!
